Comment: After high school, I graduated from Nettleton Business College and begin working in Sioux Falls. In 1963, I married Bill Ellenbecker, a native of Sioux Falls. We have three great sons and daughter-in-laws, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. After staying home for a few years to raise our children, I began my career working in various positions in office administration, retiring in 2008 from Sanford Health Foundation. After retirement our dream was to travel which we have been doing for the past few years, spending winters in AZ and TX. We love RVing and the opportunity to visit many different places and make many new friends. We also like visiting our son’s and their families in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Alaska. My hobbies include reading, cooking & baking, gardening, trying different things on my computer, and recently learning to play Mah Jongg-necessary to keep this aging brain busy! J |

Comment:
After graduation I worked at banks and brokerage houses, married and raised two daughters. Then - single again and my daughters on their own, that window of opportunity appeared. For me that window had a dream of singing in Europe, so I moved to Paris, France where I auditioned for a pianist/singer who asked me to perform with him. I lived in Paris for a year and a half, we performed mostly jazz and broadway. I also sang classical sacred music at the American Church of Paris. During this time, the war in Kosovo was happening; we begin to see refugees on the streets. War is very real in Europe, not like watching on television. This moved me to pursue another interest that I had had since middle school years - that of international aid work. I came home and began the application process to work with UMCOR and for the next few years I lived and worked in Armenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, DRCongo, Mexico and Bolivia, coming home in-between and doing temp clerical work. It has been a growing-interesting life and every day I am grateful for another beautiful day. Looking forward to lots more. |
