Comment: Great website!  Thanks to all involved!!
Tell us about yourself: Hello, classmates of 1962! Our 60-year reunion. Wow!! Where did the time go? After high school: I graduated from The University of Iowa, Iowa City (Gary Swain was a classmate there); met and married my husband Dick Riley, worked as a high school librarian at Iowa City High School from 1966-69 while my husband attended law school; moved to Minneapolis upon his graduation from law school; we have a daughter Kate, born 1970, and a son Scott, born 1973, and four wonderful grandchildren (two each family); became involved with the Twin Cities community through the Junior League of Minneapolis and Children\'s Cancer Research Fund; have sung continually since 1976 with LeagueAires, a women's song and dance troupe that brings the joy and healing power of music to older adults and those with disabilities; took up tennis in earnest in 1970 and still play women's doubles several times a week; got involved with the United States Tennis Association, for which I have volunteered since the 1970s; have pursued with a passion genealogical research; cherish my friends and fellowship in an ecumenical Bible study group; joined the Wayzata Community Church chancel choir in 2011. Life is full and rich! My late husband and I ended our 46-year marriage in 2012, and I have learned lots of late-life lessons while looking for a life partner using online dating. The search continues...

\"Onward Sioux Falls, onward Sioux Falls, you\'re the best of all!\"

Etta (Janie) Russell (Eleeson)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: retired teacher
Tell us about yourself: After graduation I attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls. I received my degree in deaf education. Carol Ellis Johs, Marge Cheever Mullins, and I agreed to interview for the same school districts. We chose Racine, Wisconsin, shared an apartement, and started our teaching careers at the same time.

I met my husband, Dan Russell, at the school where I first taught. We have two daughters. I taught for 30 some years though part of those years were part time while the girls were young. We built a summer cabin in Boulder Junction and spent our summers at the lake, finishing whatever we could on the cabin. It now has had an addition or two and is our summer home when we are in Wisconsin.

We moved to Naples, Floirda when we retired. Actually we are east of Naples in a community called Port of the Islands where we are on a canal with Gulf access. We have boats and kayaks in both places and love being on the water. I volunteer at the elementary school in Everglade City.

We have five grandchildren ranging in age from 15 to 3--four boys and one girl. They all belong to our oldest daughter, Laurie Mitchell. We spend lots of time with our girls and grandchildren when we are in Wisconsin. Actually, they spend time with us since they enjoy the lake.

I am looking forward to the reunion. It will be good to see everyone who will be there.

Tell us about yourself: I married Roger Russell (class of 60) in June 1963 so we will celebrate our 50th anniversary next year. We lived in Biloxi, MS, Sumter, SC while in the service. We then moved to Dubuque, Iowa for 5 years as Roger was working for J.C. Penney Co. at that time. We then moved back to Sioux Falls. I retired as a medical transcriptionist at Sioux Valley Hospital (Sanford) after 21 years and Roger worked for the State of South Dakota for 32 years. We have two children, Renee, a nurse/physician assistant at Sanford, and Roger II who is a real estate agent in Sioux Falls. We have 5 grandchildren, 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Two of the kids are seniors in high school and 2 are freshmen in high school. We have a 3-year-old granddaughter. The grandkids are the joy of our lives. We stay busy chasing after the grandchildren, having coffee at the local gas station (Wall Lake Oil). We have lived at Wall Lake (10 miles west of Sioux Falls) since 1999. We enjoy church, the grandkids' activities, friends and family. I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion in Sept.

Comment: The summer of 1961 I moved from Sioux Falls with my family to North Platte Nebraska.  I had attended schools from 1st through 11th grade in Sioux Falls, SD.  I had many friends in Washington SHS and was not happy about having to move just before starting my senior year.  I was planning to come back to the 50th reunion as a guest with a couple of my friends that did graduate from WSHS.  However, I am care giver for my mother and was unable to coordinate a care giver for her during the time I would be gone.  I enjoyed looking through the Buzz and thought maybe it might be possible to include my name in the Buzz.  I would love to hear from anyone.   email   constance.jean@frontier.com

Education after high school some college courses as required for my Federal positions.

Jobs I’ve held Many different positions with the US Federal Service. Some of the most interesting: congressional technician researching and writing responses to congressional inquiries/complaints from US military soldiers to US Senators, Vice President, and President for First US Army 3 Star Generals signature; Training Specialist for First US Army, requesting and managing quotas from Military Training Schools for required training of Officer and Enlisted military personnel in their Military Operating Specialty; working as a Right of Way Specialist for Bonneville Power Association (BPA), managing and enforcing encroachments on BPA right of way; working as a Computer Information Specialist for BPA as a team lead, managing workload of upgrading computers, installing software, troubleshooting problems, testing software, training users how to use new software.

Other stuff

I enjoy gardening. I love all seasons: “Winter is an etching, Spring a watercolor, Summer an oil painting and Autumn a mosaic of them all.” Stanley Horowitz”.

My home is surrounded by my different garden vignettes. The birds watch for me, the squirrels watch out for me, and the hummingbirds have no fear of me. I've even begun to tolerate the garter snakes. I make plenty of noise to scare off the larger ones. When they become too many I catch the smaller ones and scoop them into a jar and relocate them in a field in the country.

In addition I enjoy genealogy and have been working on my 4 family branches.
