Although he graduated high school with the third lowest GPA, he went on to earn numerous college degrees.  He was a proud, life-long learner who went on to earn his Bachelors from Sioux Falls College in 1971, a Masters of Science in Education from Black Hills State College in 1974, and a Masters of Divinity from Sioux Falls Baptist Seminary in 2002.  He also served four years in US Marine Corp and was in the first Marine group to occupy Vietnam in 1965.

On August 17, 1969, he married Janet Krause at Castlewood American Lutheran Church. Bob and Jan moved to “West River” SD shortly after their nuptials and lived in Pine Ridge, Kyle, and Martin.  Son, Corwin Jones, was born in 1971, and daughter Erika Jones (Carry) was born in 1974. Bob and Jan moved to Brookings, SD, in 1992 and continued to reside there.

Bob was a teacher at Pine Ridge; a principal at Kyle and American Horse Day School in Allen; acting superintendent for Pine Ridge and Wamblee. He retired from Flandreau Indian School as the Business Administrator in 1999.  He then went on to serve as Pastor at Olivet Presbyterian in Volga, and Lay Minister and pulpit supply in the Brookings area.

Bob had numerous affiliations throughout life, including Brookings Presbyterian Church, ESA, Golden K, American Legion, Mason, jail and nursing home ministry, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Association Retired and Federal Employee (NARFE), and served on many boards and committees.

Memorials will be directed by the family to the Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Bob and Jan Jones Endowment, intended for scholarships for students attending college in preparation for a teaching career.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jan Jones, Brookings, SD, son Corwin (Jenny) Jones, Pierre, SD, daughter Erika (Tom) Carry, Hastings, MN; sisters Jeanne (Larry) Hammargren, Vernona, WI, Rita (Bob) Keener, Albright, WV; grandchildren Anya Jones, Blake Jones, Lucas Carry, Will Carry, and Ian Carry. Bob had a tremendous sense of humor, could make a friend in any crowd, and he was always looking out for “ambergileous” people.
