Barbara K. Davis, daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Erickson) Thompson, was born February 16, 1944, in Sioux Falls.  She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1962. She went on to receive a two-year degree from Heider College of Business in Omaha. After completing school, she married her high school sweetheart while he was home on leave from the Air Force. Shortly thereafter she found herself moving to Bitburg, Germany, where she lived on a military base for three years.  While in Germany in 1966, she was blessed with her first son, Larry.  In 1968 she moved to Greenville, Texas, and that same year she was blessed with her second son, Chris.  Barbara then returned to Sioux Falls to be around her extended family, and this is where she settled for the remainder of her life. In 1974, she was blessed with her third son, Ed. Her parents were always a very big part of Barbara and her sons' lives, from vacations together to spending most of the summers mowing lawns and tilling gardens for her father’s lawn and garden business.  She retired from Metz Bakery after nearly 30 years of dedicated service.  Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, she worked at Roosevelt High School serving lunches and thoroughly enjoyed being around the kids.  She had many other hobbies and interests, her favorites were cooking, gardening, flowers, and fishing.

Barbara’s parents instilled a strong faith and love of Jesus in her at a young age.  She spent most of her life exemplifying the Christian tenets of charity and loving others as you love yourself.  She was very active at Faith Temple Church where she participated in Bible studies and charitable endeavors. She volunteered and gave to many causes including the Faith Temple Food Giveaway, The Salvation Army, The Banquet, and many other national evangelical associations. Her giving extended to civic causes as she was a volunteer precinct deputy for numerous local elections. She enjoyed her summer vacations attending the annual Kenneth Hagin Ministries Camp Meetings in Oklahoma.  She was a devoted faith leader and spent many hours in prayer, praying for others. No matter where or with whom, she would work to guide anyone towards a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry (Sara) Davis of Lonsdale, MN, Chris (Michelle) Davis of Sioux Falls, and Ed (Jean) Davis of Garretson; nine grandchildren, Brittney (Gunnar Gens) Davis, Alicia Davis, Zach Davis, Braden Davis, Brianna Davis, Cody (Taylor) Davis, Connor (Maddie Powell) Davis, Leslie (Dan) Schipper, and Elizabeth (Hunter Kotrous) Davis; five great grandchildren, Teagan Sirek, Bexley Davis, Huxton Davis, Zeppelin Schipper, and Stevie Schipper; sister, Sandy Kracke of Sioux Falls; niece, Tylynn (Kracke) Klune of Sioux Falls; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Bernice Thompson.
